Digital camera batteries
Don't leave home without them.

Digital cameras are very power hungry and require a lot of battery power. Most digital cameras are shipped with a proprietary Lithium ion rechargeable battery. It's lightweight and can be charged many times; however, it's a good idea to have a spare battery on hand. Once the battery is drained it can take up to one hour to fully recharge.

You can conserve on power by not previewing images on the LCD screen. Better yet, turn off the LCD screen.

If you're going to be shooting a lot(perhaps at a wedding or event) it's best to invest in a battery pack for your camera. It can add to the expense and weight of your camera, but is indispensable when photographing a large event. Be careful you do not expose your battery pack to rain or moisture (or any rechargeable battery for that case) since is contains a large amount of energy. Better be safe than sorry.

Most digital cameras are shipped with a battery and charger. Spare batteries should be purchased as back-ups.You can never have too many batteries!

Digital camera accessories, especially flashes, use alkaline batteries (AA.) You'll need to find a rechargeable substitute, otherwise you'll be going through batteries like water. The most environmentally friendly type of rechargeable AA battery is the Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMh); they are powerful and do not contain cadmium. Lithium ion (Li-on) AA batteries are now available, which have a high power capacity. It's best to drain the batteries completely before recharging them. Rechargeable AA batteries will cost more upfront, but in the long run will save you tons of money.
