PHOTOFAIRS | Shanghai took place over the weekend, Using More than 50 galleries from 28 Unique cities Displaying in the Shanghai Exhibition Centre.

A stage for photographs and moving image, the 2017 edition was supported by Presenting Partner Porsche and watched over 30,000 visitors through its doors.

<p>Launched in 2014, PHOTOFAIRS | Shanghai is a  leading commercial system for photography in Asia.  Its fourth edition included of its gallery presentation, for being both artistically praised this year diverse and concentratedof displays and projects.  This year proved to be the biggest and most successful effort yet, with prominent collectors and curators Simon Baker (Tate Modern, London), Jefferson Hack (NOWNESS), Qiao Zhibing (Qiao Space, Shanghai) and   Adrian Cheng (K11 Art Foundation, Shanghai) in presence.</p>

<p>Among Asia’s most diverse presentations on photography and moving image, participating galleries included Robert Mann Gallery (New York), Magnum Photo (London) and ShanghART Gallery (Shanghai, Singapore, Beijing).</p>

<p>Its most global iteration up to now, a highlight this year included   “Staged”, a curated initiative that assesses  the relationship between photography and other mediums, such as installation, sculpture, performance and painting.  Relevant artists were   spotlighted in different “chapters” around the fair space.</p>

<p>The fair also considered the historic evolution of colour photography through   “Insights | A Color Explosion: The Rise of Contemporary Photography”, together with works by internationally famous photographers like William Eggleston, Harry Callahan and Luigi Ghirri.</p>
<p>Curators and characters in the art  world commended the fair.   “The fourth edition of PHOTOFAIRS | Shanghai revealed a new period of adulthood,” remarked curator Christopher Phillips:</p>

<p>The combination of Asian galleries and people from different parts of the planet struck a perfect balance.  The exceptional exhibits revealed that collectors and Asian artists have reached a degree of elegance.  And undoubtedly, everyone at the reasonable noticed the presence of leading European and American museums and collectors curators, who seemed to be likely major acquisitions of photography”</p>

<p>In the same way, Jean-François Dubos (Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Paris) commented on the absence of ‘déjà vu’ inside the gallery presentation and the honest’s talks programme, providing people a chance to unearth “new discoveries in the contemporary Chinese art landscape”.</p>
<p>Offering opinions to PHOTOFAIRS galleries unanimously  agreed that this art fair’s fourth variant showed a wider scope of  the public’s admiration for contemporary photography, and the selection of collector’s attending the average.   As Magnum Photos describes,</p>

<p>The reasonable gives us a platform to develop and create relationships with collectors and expand our work with the industry.  It’s amazing how engaged people are as though photography is bursting as a business in China and it seems.</p>

<div>Other functions sold include video function by Yang Yongliang, and pieces with Daido Moriyama, Wang Wusheng, Liang Xiu, Wang Man and Zhang Kechun.  </div>

<p>Calibre and in addition to the range of musicians’ labour and visitor recognition, the reasonable has been attract museum curators and collectors, developing critical client bases.  As Leo Xu Projects (Shanghai) describes, “Having noticed the fair grow over the previous three years, I’m very happy to be here since it offers a very concentrated environment and matches my needs to meet a new customer base.”</p>

<p>Blindspot Gallery from Hong Kong consented, commenting on how this year there have been more museum professionals and curators than preceding years.</p>
